Club job descriptions for Australian employers
Registered and licensed clubs run on shift-based work across bar, gaming, food, functions and administration — often all at once, with strict liquor and gaming compliance. From bar and gaming attendants to duty and club managers, clear role definitions help clubs hire well, roster fairly and stay compliant.
Most club employees are covered by the Registered and Licensed Clubs Award 2020 (MA000058), which sets minimum pay rates, weekend and public-holiday penalties, evening and late-night loadings, and allowances across a shared Introductory + Level 1–5+ structure. Many roles require certifications such as RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) and RSG (Responsible Service of Gaming).
These templates provide compliant, industry-standard job descriptions you can customise for your club. Each includes duties, required skills, certifications and award-classification guidance — then pair them with club rostering software and the Clubs Award pay guide once your team is hired.

Award coverage for club workers
Most club employees are covered by the Registered and Licensed Clubs Award 2020 (MA000058), the primary award for registered and licensed clubs — RSL, leagues, bowling, golf, surf and community clubs. It sets minimum rates across a shared Introductory + Level 1–5+ structure that applies to the bar/food and beverage, gaming, clerical and operational streams, plus Saturday, Sunday and public-holiday penalties, evening and late-night loadings, overtime, and allowances such as broken-shift, meal and cook’s tool allowances.
Not every venue sits under MA000058. Pubs, hotels and bars are usually covered by the Hospitality Award, and standalone restaurants by the Restaurant Award. Confirm coverage with Fair Work’s PACT tool before applying rates. Many larger clubs also run on enterprise agreements.
Certifications and responsible service are central to compliance. Bar staff need an RSA; gaming staff need an RSG; managers often need approved-manager qualifications. Verify these before staff start and keep records. Use award interpretation software to calculate accurate pay including weekend and evening loadings, and read the full Clubs Award pay guide.

Once you've hired your team, manage them efficiently with RosterElf. Build multi-department rosters across bar, gaming and functions, calculate Clubs Award rates and loadings automatically, track RSA and RSG certifications, and simplify timesheets — all in one platform built for Australian clubs.
