Rota software by industry

The software is the same in every sector. What differs is the pressure — where cover breaks, which rules bite first, and what your records have to be able to prove.

We are adding UK sector guides one at a time, written from UK law rather than adapted from elsewhere. In the meantime the free templates and guides below apply to any shift-based team.

FAQ

Industry rota questions

What applies across every UK shift-based sector.

  • RosterElf is built for shift-based teams generally rather than for one sector — rotas, clock-in records, absence and payroll export work the same way in a pub, a care home, a warehouse or a retail group. The industry pages exist because the rules and the pressure points differ, not because the software does.
  • The Working Time Regulations 1998 (a 48-hour weekly average over a rolling 17 weeks, an uninterrupted 20-minute break over six hours, and 11 hours daily rest), the National Minimum Wage, and 5.6 weeks statutory holiday. See our rota laws guide.
  • National Minimum Wage records for six years, and annual leave and holiday pay records for six years since 6 April 2026. PAYE records for three years from the end of the tax year. Our employee records guide sets out the rest.
