Rostering software by industry
The software is the same in every sector. What differs is the pressure — where cover breaks, which rules bite first, and what your records have to be able to prove.

Industry rostering questions
What applies across every New Zealand shift-based sector.
- RosterElf is built for shift-based teams generally rather than for one sector — rosters, clock-in records, leave and payroll export work the same way in a café, an aged-care home, a warehouse or a retail group. The industry pages exist because the rules and the pressure points differ, not because the software does.
- The Employment Relations Act 2000 (agreed hours, and rest and meal breaks scaled by hours worked), the Holidays Act 2003 (four weeks annual holidays after 12 months, 10 days sick leave after six months, public holidays and alternative holidays), and the Minimum Wage Act. There is no award system and no statutory penalty rates.
- If an employee works a public holiday that would otherwise have been a working day for them, they earn a whole paid day off to take later, on top of at least time and a half for the day worked. It does not expire and is paid out on termination — our roster templates code it separately for that reason.
- Wage and time records and holiday and leave records for every employee — hours worked each day, pay, and leave taken and owing — under the Employment Relations Act 2000 and the Holidays Act 2003.
