RosterElf integrations
Good software should not create more admin. RosterElf connects to Xero, Smartly and MYOB for New Zealand payroll, Google Maps for GPS-verified clock-ins and Google Calendar for shift syncing — so the hours reaching payroll are the hours actually worked.

Xero payroll integration
Send the hours people actually worked
Approved timesheets move into Xero with hours, rates and leave already applied. Nobody re-keys a spreadsheet, and the figures your payroll runs on are the ones a manager signed off rather than the ones originally rostered.
That distinction matters more here than it looks. Payday filing has been required since April 2019, and its accuracy depends entirely on the hours reaching payroll being real — RosterElf records clock-ins, not intentions.
Smartly payroll integration
For teams paid through Smartly
Smartly is one of the most widely used payroll products in New Zealand, particularly among small and mid-sized employers, and RosterElf connects to it directly — so rostered and worked hours reach it without a manual step in between.
Setup is a one-off matching exercise: line your staff and pay items up once, and every pay run afterwards flows through with the right codes attached.
MYOB, and every other payroll system
A direct connection, or a clean export
Timesheets, leave, overtime and allowances flow into MYOB the same way they flow into Xero — approved first, then exported with the pay codes already matched.
New Zealand has a crowded payroll market, and we do not pretend to connect to all of it. PaySauce, iPayroll, PayHero, SmoothPay and Crystal Payroll are not direct integrations — but approved timesheets export as CSV, which all of them accept, so you still never re-key an hour. If you would like a direct connection to the one you use, tell us which it is.
GPS-verified clock-ins
Know the shift started where it should have
RosterElf uses Google Maps to place each clock-in. Set a geofence per site and staff can only start a shift once they are actually there, which removes the most common source of quiet payroll drift.
It also leaves a location trail behind every entry — useful when a wage and time record has to be produced, which under section 130 of the Employment Relations Act must be kept for six years and handed over on request.
Shifts where people already look
Published once, visible everywhere
Publish a roster and it appears in each person’s own calendar, on whatever phone they already carry. Changes and cancellations follow, so nobody is working from a screenshot of last week.
Shifts sync as read-only events — the roster stays the single source of truth, and changes still go through a manager.

Common questions about RosterElf integrations
- Yes. Approved timesheets export to Xero in one click with hours, rates and leave already applied, so payroll is not rebuilt from a spreadsheet each pay run. See payroll integration.
- Yes. Smartly is one of the most widely used payroll products in New Zealand and RosterElf connects to it directly — see the Smartly payroll integration. Our setup guide walks through it step by step — set up the Smartly payroll integration.
- RosterElf does not connect to those products directly. Approved timesheets export as CSV, which every major New Zealand payroll system accepts, so you still avoid re-keying hours by hand. If you would like a direct connection to the product you use, tell us which one — that is how the integration list grows.
- Your payroll system files to Inland Revenue, not RosterElf. What RosterElf changes is the quality of the hours reaching it: payday filing has been required since April 2019, and its accuracy depends on the hours submitted being the hours actually worked rather than the hours rostered. RosterElf records clock-ins, so the two match. See time and attendance.
- No — KiwiSaver is calculated by your payroll system from gross earnings, and the employer minimum rose from 3% to 3.5% on 1 April 2026 (legislated to reach 4% on 1 April 2028). RosterElf supplies the hours and earnings those contributions are calculated from.
