Loadings are extra payments made on top of their usual rates of pay for your staff. For example, if your business has casual staff who work weekends, public holidays or overtimes - they may be entitled to earning more pay over their standard pay rate such as 17.5% loading.
Loading will vary between different industries and modern awards your business is categorised. Leave loadings are legal entitlements for most modern industry awards.
Loadings can also refer to leave loadings for entitlements such as annual leave. Every full-time Australian employee is entitled to 4 weeks of paid annual leave per year of their employment. This covers the minimum pay rates entitled to staff who are being paid annual leave.

For example, your business may have a standard template which covers Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm. Your business’ pay templates (based on your industry award) may also need to include an ‘overtime’, ‘weekend’ and ‘public holiday’ pay rule.
